Global Underwater Explorers began with a group of divers whose love of underwater exploration grew naturally into a desire to protect those environments. In 1999, a unique organization was formed that would be dedicated to high-quality diver education with the goals of supporting aquatic research that advances conservation and safely expanding exploration of the underwater world.
GUE has become a global leader in scuba education. One inspiration for GUE’s creation was to provide the highest quality diver training programs possible to produce divers who are skilled, competent, and safe—and having fun! Enhanced diving skills increase diver safety, reduce damage to fragile marine ecosystems, and open the door to expanded opportunities for exploration and conservation of diverse underwater environment.
GUE's leaders and members have advanced scuba experience that enables them to safely reach depths and locations that many divers never could. This means we can offer much-needed assistance to researchers around the world, as well as launch our own unique initiatives.
Global Underwater Explorers emerged out of a shared desire to safely explore and protect the underwater world and to improve the quality of education and research in all things aquatic. In line with the original vision of its founding members, GUE is committed to:
- Developing safe, skilled, and knowledgeable divers
- Undertaking and promoting underwater research
- Pursuing global underwater exploration
- Safeguarding the integrity of the underwater world
- Providing the public with a comprehensive resource on all things aquatic.
New Zealand is one of the most diverse and interesting areas on earth! The density of marine species in this country and the geology of the islands mean that there is countless opportunities to explore and engage with underwater environments. Caves, Wrecks, Reefs, We have them all and like all areas of beauty and value we must protect and conserve them for future generations.
By building a solid community of like minded skilled individuals with a passion for conservation we have a real chance at documenting and breeding awareness of these critical environments. We as GUE divers have the tools needed to access these places and return with usable information to help support this vision.
GUE training will allow you to do more than you ever thought possible with your diving. Contributing to a greater cause whilst doing something you love is often a rare thing to find. This Global network of divers and like minded people make this a reality both here in NZ and overseas.
